L'il Abner was the title character in the long-running (1934-1977) syndicated newspaper strip by cartoonist Al Capp. Hardly "li'l," Abner was a hulking, naive man-child, and the frequent foil for Capp's satiric stories about American life and politics. This simple-minded citizen of humble Dogpatch was a paragon of virtue in a dark and cynical world.

Lil' Abner was manufactured by The Baby Barry Toy Company in New York. L'il Abner is 14" tall, is fully jointed, and made of vinyl. He has vibrant painted features and molded painted hair with no rubs, repaints, or damage. The back of his head is marked "BABY BARRY TOY/PS ©1957" and on the bottoms of his shoes "©BBDOLL". The doll is in immaculate condition.

He comes dressed in his original clothing with includes a red and white checked short sleeved shirt with a large white collar and a single brass button, blue overalls with patches on the knees tagged "AL CAPP/DOG PATCH FAMILY" & "EXCLUSIVE LICENSEE/BABY BARRY/TOY-N.Y.C.", and large oversized tan boots. His clothing is in fabulous condition with no rips, tears, or repairs and is still factory fresh.

He comes with his original box which is in great condition considering it's 40 years old. There are no major problems and the graphics are bright and all there. The box is marked #514 L'il Abner on the end of the box. This is a very rare and collectible doll.
