Antique Stereoscope Stereoviewer
was manufactured by The Keystone View Company, circa 1904. It
has the Monarch trademark on the facepiece which is a large buck deer in a wooded scene encircled in a circle. The hood is
ornately embossed. It is stamped
on the wooden holder: KEYSTONE VIEW CO. MEADVILLE, PA. PAT'D APRIL 12, 1904 This ‘Monarch’ type viewer was made after 1908 in Meadville, PA, USA, and has two lenses at a set distance in an ornate metal hood frame. The pictures can be moved horizontally in order to focus them. These devises became popular in the middle of the 19th century. You placed a special card in the clips at the front of the viewer and the images seemed 3-D. Viewing these cards was a popular pastime in the late 1800's, early 1900's. This charming antique stereo viewer's lenses are nice and clear. The engraved metal hood is ornately embossed and still has the original felt padding used to protect the face from damage. The metal hood is in fabulous condition with very little wear. The body and handle is made of wood, and the handle is flexible, swinging up or down. It is 13" long and 7.25" wide and 9.5" high when handle is extended.
